Preface. I used to be a vinyl DJ from 1988 and for a little over 5 years that was my setup till my albums, SL1200s, and mixer was stolen from storage. I switched up to CDs for a while, and worked as a radio and club DJ till 1999.
After a long pause I decided to get back into DJing and invested in a Traktor S2 and TP2. In general it's been an OK setup, but there are enough quirks that I have experience that I am open to explore better options if they are there. Further I am considering going to a SC3900 or NS7 / NS7 II / V7 route to get some of that vinyl feel back. If I were to stay on the NI side I would likely invest in the Z2.
All that being said there are some things I dislike about TP2 and the S2. On the controller side it's plastic, and although durable, feels cheap. The platters are ok, but for scratching they just really do not cut it.
On the software side I had for a long time a major issue with CPU usage and clipping (which finally got resolved). I dislike some of the file management features of TP2. While the effects are indeed powerful and the effects decks are very nice, as a Mobile DJ spinning Pop, Hip-hop, Rock, R&B, etc I find myself rarely using those features, if ever
So task #1 for me is to see if and what features of Serato trumps Traktor.
And task #2 is to see hardware wise if I should go with a more modular (and larger) SC3900 / V7 + mixer setup, or should I stray towards a more unified controller like the NS7 / NS7 II.

HOW TO SET UP TRAKTOR
Native Access is a small cloud-based application that handles downloads, installation, and updates for Native Instruments software. It’s the easiest way to get all your music creation tools ready for use, so you can spend more time making music and less time managing products.
STEP 1: DOWNLOAD, INSTALL, AND RUN NATIVE ACCESS
DOWNLOAD (Mac)DOWNLOAD (Win)- Sep 04, 2015 In Djay, you probably have to go in to MIDI Configure Traktor Kontrol S4 MK2 (or press ⌘Y), and from the MIDI Configuration drop down, make sure the one with all the mappings is chosen (for me, this was TraktorKontrolS4MK2 with underscores rather than spaces).
- Jul 22, 2013 From Traktor to Serato (and Kontrol S2 to SC3900/NS7/NS7 II/V7) Pros and cons. The only challenge you'll get with Serato is setting up new playlists, unless you made those in iTunes. Then its just drag and drop. In fact I find it doesn't lag my computer searching for requests like it did in Traktor 2.6. There is keylock.
- With our stand-alone controllers TRAKTOR KONTROL S2 / S4 / Z2, you will directly get to the DECK LAYOUT SELECTION screen to conclude the configuration. With the add-on controllers TRAKTOR KONTROL X1 / F1 however, the Setup Wizard will additionally enter the HARDWARE CONTROLLER SETUP and ask you whether or not your are using an external controller.
- If you already have Native Access, just start the application.
- You’ll be asked to log in with your NI account. If you don't have one, you can create one within the app.
- Please pay particular attention to the Installation Preferences – see below for details.
STEP 2: ENTER SERIAL NUMBER IN NATIVE ACCESS
Select “Add serial,” and enter your TRAKTOR serial number as shown on the flyer in your product box or on the underside of your hardware unit.
STEP 3: INSTALL SOFTWARE
Install the TRAKTOR software and library, and all other software you need. If you already have the TRAKTOR software, please upgrade to the latest version.
IMPORTANT: When you run Native Access for the first time, you’ll be asked to “select a target folder.” Native Access will install all product content, such as sample libraries, into this target folder. Sample content in particular takes up a lot of space, so you may want to install everything to a dedicated hard drive.
